About the Journal

Insights and Advances in Geographic Information and Health is a peer-reviewed, open access journal published on a continual basis by Roos & 42nd. The journal was established initially as a course journal to accompany sharing of papers by scholars learning Geographic Information Systems and Geographic Information Sciences in the field of Population Health. As such, the journal welcomes papers in all aspects of spatial data analyses related to environmental health, global health, behavioral health, spatial epidemiology, health care access, social determinants of health, built environment and health, place-based health, One Health, infectious diseases, global health, and other population and public health subdisciplines. The journal is affiliated with and is managed at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, USA.

This journal uses a single-blinded, open peer review approach.  Editors and reviewers know the identity of the authors, but the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers. Authors and Reviewers have the option for open peer review, which peer reviewers' comments and authors' responses are published with the accepted paper. The open peer review process leans heavily towards a transparent review process that allows papers to be accepted for publication when reviewers' concerns are clearly described, addressed by authors, and understood by readers when review comments and responses are published alongside of papers.
